My thumb/wrist haven't felt so good in weeksI just got this brace in the mail about 6 hours ago. My thumb/wrist haven't felt so good in weeks! I have bent the thumb splint to be a bit closer to my hand (POC) and I am thrilled with how much better the scaphoid area feels. I now feel like I can function close to normal without, once again, re-injuring the scaphoid area; which I have been doing for weeks now.... I've been nursing this wound with a left hand wrist brace (worn backwards?) but I still had to much free movement of the thumb, so I used it. This brace has two metal pieces, one for wrist stability and the other for the thumb. As I have not / will not, go to Dr., I feel that this brace will give me the stability needed to heal. The smaller wrist brace from Futuro was no help for me. It was supportive but did not stabilize/stop over-extensions, which is how I hurt this in the first-place.... Typing is still terrible though! In my opinion, spend the extra and get the support to resolve the injury/inflammation. 5Fantastic brace with soft sleeve to protect your skinThis is a great brace. It breathes well so you don t get really hot while wearing it. It holds your thumb and wrist in a comfortably neutral position. There is soft material inside that goes over your skin like a sleeve. I like this sleeve feature because the brace Velcro is not right up against your skin. 5Very good for de Quervain's syndrome.Few wrist supports address de Quervain's Syndrome, which requires immobilization of the thumb for relief. This product is excellent at providing relief. I'd recommend to anyone with de Quervain's. 5Good Product, not for everyoneI have had 3 different braces and this one so far tops my list. I like how it kept my wrist from moving and the quality of the product seems to be very good. However the way the strap pushes your thumb into the brace, my thumb bone rests on the metal brace so I can really only wear it for a few hours before I have new pain in a different part of my thumb. I used the sizing chart as recommended and 2 out of 3 of the Velcro straps work perfectly. The back strap just barley holds on but has yet to come loose.I am sold on the company, I think they have some great products but I don't think this brace is for me. I will return this brace but I will be purchasing a different brace with out thumb support from BioSkin again. 3Very comfortable wrist/thumb braceAfter scaphoid fixation surgery, I needed a brace with both wrist and thumb support. I found many options for a wrist splint or for a thumb stabilizer, but not for both. I tried the OTC brand first, but found it extremely uncomfortable and only seemed to agitate the surgery area more. I returned it the next day and bought this instead.This brace is fantastic. The only thing that initially bothered me about it was the middle strap pushing against the other side of my wrist, but since it can be moved or removed altogether, I just adjusted it until it was comfortable. The metal support on the wrist fits natually around my palm, and I don't even notice the metal along my thumb. This has a nice fleece strap between the thumb and forefinger, and a silky feeling material on the rest of the thumb and along the top of the wrist. It feels very open between the thumb and fingers, and leaves no marks when I take it off. Another reviewer said that this Bioskin brace seems like it was designed by someone who has actually had a hand injury before, and I absolutely agree. In comparison, the OTC brace felt like it was suffocating my thumb area, put a lot of pressure between the thumb and forefinger, and also had a thick seam along the thumb right where my incision was.I almost never leave reviews, but since there aren't many options on Amazon for this type of brace, I thought it might be useful for others in my situation. For reference, my wrist measures 6", and I got the M-L size. I can't comment on the long term quality yet, but if it doesn't hold up during the next 4+ weeks I have to wear it, I'll update my review. 5Pleasantly surprisedI came into an industry prone to carpal tunnel syndrome, but had it for several years before starting this job. I had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery in 2015.Wearing braces outside of work hours helps alleviate the pain and tingling. I've had a half dozen braces here and there over the years, and while I like a couple they tend to vanish when I'm in the middle of an episode so I bought a few to try. This was among the contenders. I thought what I was seeing was mostly hype and marketing drivel, and high prices for mediocre product is the norm for medical supplies like braces, so my hopes were low. It beat out a Bird & Cronin (usually really good) and an Aircast brace.Another review seems to have hit on something - this seems to have been designed by someone who's had to wear one of the other designs of wrist brace.The only thing I dislike so far is the elastic and strap on the thumb spica - ;the elastic seems super thin so it doesn't really fjel like it adds any support, and the little landing at the end of the spica doesn't really want to let the strap l;ay down without a fuss (bu t having that is a lot better than not, so I'm more than willing to deal with it). Minor niggles, but still worth noting.I like this thing so much I bought another for my right hand. I have no idea how hard wearing these things are as of yet. 4Best Thumb Spica Brace out there!I cannot count how many braces I've tried, I think I filled a whole drawer with them. This one is different from them all.First, this is the ONLY brace I have tried that doesn't put any pressure on the thumb joint or the sore tendon. I don't understand why every other brace has something (seams, metal insert, straps) that rub or push on the sensitive areas you are trying to heal!)Second, it is the only brace I have seen that has so many custom features. You can take out the metal supports if you don't need them. I do, and they are very comfortable. You can remove the middle strap if you don't need it, or it is uncomfortable for you. I found it very comfortable, but I like the fact I can remove it at a later date, if wanted.Third: the material is VERY comfortable and breathable. You will not sweat in this one. And I like the feel of the soft fleece material, very nice.I can only conclude that this brace was designed by someone who ACTUALLY had a thumb injury before! Forget spending your money on other braces/splints before you try this one! It might be a little more expensive, but if I had bought this one first, I would have saved a lot of money!I would definitely buy from this company again. 5Maybe not new?The product has a very worn soft fleece like material between thumb and pointer finger to stabilize the thumb, but it's very worn looking so I'm not sure its new. Pretty interesting I can't post pictures to show it to you. Please allow me to host them online. After all, it's Mother's Day right now so I'm busy! 4Bioskin - Best No Pressure Wrist/Thumb Spica BraceSizing:I used the size chart as provided and used a tape measure around my wrist just below the hand. I first measured in inches, then took a second measurement in cm as a double check and both put me as a Med according to the chart. I was hesitant because most other manufacturers have a cutoff that would put me as a small but I trusted the chart and when the bioskin brace arrived I'm glad I did because it fit perfectly!Shipping/Handling:I choose two day (non-prime) because I needed the item fast. Manufacturer sent a email letting me know when it was shipped and allowing for communication should I have any questions or issues. Item arrived on time, easy to open, easy instructions, nicely shipped. It was worth the extra $ for quick shipment when my insurance deductible would have been as much or more for a brace at a store.Features:Rigid Full Length Thumb Support - this may be a con if you expect to use the tip of your thumb for day to day activities but if you need the extra support for healing an injury this brace has it.No Pressure Points - I specifically love this design as it replaces a Roylan brace given to me from an ortho dr for a MCP joint (at thumb) and wrist injury and that brace was designed such that it looked like a wrist splint with a thumb area sewn onto it. Well, the thumb stitching was going right across the MCP joint and when the brace was adjusted with the velcro it left impression marks (pressure sores) causing increased pain and not allowing healing to occur. I ordered a OTC lightweight wrist/thumb brace from here and it too had the thumb area attached causing pressure on the MCP so it had to be returned. Since the Bioskin brace has a full ergononimically designed splint on the side going up to the thumb it does not cause a pressure mark and I am not feeling the pain wearing this brace.Removable middle strap - The middle strap over the wrist area can be removed (the one that goes all the way around and has the logo on it). This would be helpful if the strap causes pressure on the ulnar head. I'm not sure this was mentioned when I ordered it and its a nice touch other braces do not have. The loop that goes between the thumb by your index index to the wrist brace is a soft fleece like material and attaches by velcro so it is adjustable; not sure if it could be cutoff or if that would affect brace staying on.Overall-Very comfortable, for having to wear a brace. Lightweight and cool. Very supportive. Significantly better design than others on market; it is well worth the increased price for the extra support as a thumb/wrist spica brace. Easy to put on. Only warning is that it does immobilize entire thumb including tip (end knuckle) - may be too much for some people's conditions or just what you need for faster healing.Pictures-If you have read this far, thank you. This is what the brace looks like in real life. Size med, right hand, new out of box, velcro straps not cut for personal fit yet. The tan brace photo shows what I mean by areas of pressure marks that the Bioskin brace avoids.Recommend-100% if you need rigid support for thumb and wrist.Would likely be happy with other products made by company as well but have not tried them. 5This is the oneThis is the one for thumb/wrist tendinosis (de quervains). I tried a couple other less expensive and smaller ones but they did not offer the necessary support to prevent the painful and aggravating movements. I work with my hands and I am able to do everything I need to with the brace on. Highly recommend. 5
