In my experience the splints that wrap the bottom of your foot are better at getting that critical right angle than those that ...This is a combined review for the 5 types of night boot/braces for plantar faciatis I've tried over a number of years. I'm sure your millage may varry, depending on foot, leg shape and more. I have large calfs and triangular shaped size 8.5 foot womans. My PF for short started a few years ago when I was working in a hospital and walking miles in it as a chaplain. Not sure why I've got current flare...In my experience the splints that wrap the bottom of your foot are better at getting that critical right angle than those that are on the top of your foot and don't even generally pretend to put your foot at a right angle. Braces with stabilizing, tightening straps on the sides that allow you to flex the foot up are helpfull. Anything which has a picture of a foot on its toes - well just laugh and move on.Futuro Night Plantar Fasciitis Sleep Support, Adjustable - This supports from the top and was a waste. Just useless.Night Splint 90 Degree Plantar Fasciitis Heel and Foot Pain Night Boot Padded (Large) This was too big and I sloshed around. There is a balance in making something small enough you can sleep in it and not get tangled in the sheets, and big enough that it does its job. Maybe in the right size this would have been okay, but I got the large because of the reported calf dimensions and it was useless for me.Comfort Dorsal Night Splint for Effective Relief From Plantar Fasciitis - Small / Medium By MARS Wellness This is now my traveling brace. It packs up small and isn't quite as comfortable or as rigorous in putting my foot at the right angle as my favorite (the Vive) but it is okay. I might padd it a bit to adjust how the velcro touches my leg....Plantar Fasciitis Splint By Vive - Hard Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint Relieves Inflammation & Pain - Foot Splint Best for me. It is a modest size, has a rubber tread on bottom which means that I feel more secure going to the bathroom at night. The wedge really improves the angle. And you can tighten the side straps for more pressure (believe me a small adjustment does a lot) I really like that the closures on the straps mean you can set tension once and don't have to figure that out again every night. If you don't have large legs you might not be able to get the calf tight enough, but for me it is the best. I ended up trimming several of the straps. I might do another adjustment to the way the velcro touches my leg....Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint by Vive - I'm not a confirmed buyer on Amazon for this one because I got it (or something very much like it) from my podiatrist. It is middling successful. I just couldn't get more than a 90 degree angle out of it, and it is so high on my leg some sleeping positions are not comfortable. But it is made of a nicer fabric than my 2 favorites (Vive and Mars) so it has that going for it. At the moment I have this by my reading chair and in my current problems am putting it on just while downstairs and relaxing. If you are very sensitive to the fabrics on your skin you might want to use this over my number 1 or 2Hope this is helpful to you and that you don't have to buy 5 braces to find your winner! 5ExcruciatingYou all have NO idea how much I wanted this splint to work. But...I simply can't wear it.And the reason isn't really something I can pinpoint -- I don't know whether it's the fault of the product or the fault of my anatomy -- but...it hurts. Wearing this for any length of time (exactly as directed, if you're wondering) leaves me in crippling pain that makes my plantar fasciitis barely noticeable in comparison. It's like it sends my whole foot into spasm.Judging by the other reviews, this splint has brought relief to many others, so I'm not going to say it's universally terrible. Maybe the structure of your foot is such that you won't have the problem I did. All the same, I can't bring myself to give more than one star for something that left me completely unable to walk, you know?Good luck. 1I have used the product for 3 nights and it is comfortable on my footI diagnosed my plantar faciitis without going to the doctor determined to avoid shots and therapy and purchased this splint to try and resolve the problem. I have used the product for 3 nights and it is comfortable on my foot. I wear a womens size 9 shoe and bought the medium size, which is adequate to support all but the very tip of my toes. As a side sleeper, it is not comfortable to rest the splint on or under the opposite foot, but that is a minor inconvenience. It can be a little tricky to adjust the buckle snaps (similar to those on snowshoes) on the outside of the foot. This product has already improved morning foot pain upon getting out of bed, and I supplement it by using heel prosthetics like Dr. Schols during the day. I recommend this product highly. 4It's a good splint, but I'm struggling to make it work...I've been using this sprint for the last few weeks, and am still struggling with it. On the one hand, the design is very thoughtful, and it seems to be well built. The straps all have extra padding and, theoretically, the latches on the straps mean that you do not have to adjust the velcro each time you put the splint on, which should prevent the velcro from wearing out prematurely. The foam block under the toes can be removed, so you can adjust the amount of stretch in your foot by using the block or not. It's all really well put together. That said, it's not working well for me. When I put it on... I put my foot against the ground, so that I can get my heel properly seated. But, when I lay down, my heel rises up, away from the bottom of the splint. This flattens out the top of my foot and means that I'm not in the proper position.I can't get the amount of tightness in the straps to work for me. If I tighten then up to keep my foot from moving, then when I lay down, they feel too tight - and my toes go numb. This happens even when I remove the block under the toes. If I leave them looser, my foot moves out of position even more. Because of this, I always need to readjust the velcro, and can't just rely on the buckles. Really, this means that I'm going through 2 steps instead of one - buckle, then tighten. I think the buckles are a great idea, but they only work once you get the velcro adjusted comfortably.I also tend to take the boot off in the middle of the night because of discomfort in my toes. I'm not fully conscious when I do this, I just sort of panic (numb toes - oh no - I'm dying!) - and remove it quickly and fall back asleep.I'm not sure what the side straps do (you can see them in the picture, running diagonally along the sides of the splint. The splint itself is plastic, and (as far as I can tell), the angle doesn't adjust. So, the side straps look useless (although they must have some purpose). They tend to get tangled up in the straps that go over the foot and ankle for me though, causing some difficulty.I don't want to leave a fully negative review, because I think the splint itself is good compared to the others I've tried. I've tried a "sock" type splint that pulls back on your toes (this hurts my toes, to the point that they feel sprained after sleeping with it on) and I've tried a splint that has plastic on top of your foot and uses velcro straps to hold your foot up to the plastic. This left my toes even more numb, as you need to tighten the straps considerably to keep your foot in position. This sprint is clearly better than that one, which I returned.I wonder if I might need a larger size? I wear a 7.5 in women's shoes... but I'm overweight. I wonder if my calves might be a bit large, and if that could contribute to my heel rising out of the boot? (If this is a possible issue, it might be helpful for the manufacturer to include some info about it on the page, to help with sizing issues). I'm just not sure if this is actually an issue or not. 3Had High Hopes but NO!Gave this boot my best shot to try and like it. Sorry, it just doesn't cut the mustard. First, like all the other complaints about the buckles they are correct. It is damn near impossible to put on if your injury is to the right foot. You have to be a contortionist to get them buckled. And for any of you our there that might have a little bit of a beer belly you can FORGET IT!. It was designed for your left foot. I purchased the large. I have a size 10 shoe and my toes came to the end of the boot. So the fit for the foot size on me was fine. Any larger foot and your toes will hang over the end. I am 6 foot with a medium build 200 lbs. and my calves are not large by any means. The calf support area just barely fit my leg. Lightly snug. But no big issue. The padding is good and the quality is good. The problem is the human body changes when you lie down. What fits when you are standing or sitting does not fit lying down. The adjustments get much tighter and cut off your circulation. If you make them looser so you can tolerate the pressure they are exerting on your calf, foot, and ankle then your heal is allowed to slide out of the pocket designed to keep your foot at the correct angle. Walking was not an issue from the bed to the bathroom but I would not try to walk any farther than that. There is a rubber pad on the bottom to keep the boot from sliding on the floor. The boot is made to sleep in. That is when the Plantar Fasciitis is supposed to heal. And I credit myself as being able to sleep anywhere under almost all conditions. But not with this boot. If you keep the straps at the proper tension to make the boot work then the straps are too tight and very annoying to try to sleep in. It's like having someone sitting on your foot and leg while you try to sleep then if you loosen up the straps to make it comfortable to sleep in the boot does not do what it was designed to do. It's a no-win scenario. So I am sending it back. I found if I cut a practice rubber softball in half and then in half again so you have a 1/4 slice of the ball and then secure the 1/4 slice of ball comfortably to the arch in your foot with an ace bandage you get the same stretch you need during the night as you would get with this boot and you have no issues sleeping. I also found that wearing an oversize arch support during the day, in the same manner, did wonders to relieve the pain in my foot. It is also helping to curr my foot pronation which caused my Plantar Fasciitis in the first place. 1Good in Theory...I can tell from the way this is made that it would work well if it fit me properly. However, I have slender ankles and calves, and even the smallest size doesn't fit snugly enough to keep my heel in place at the intended angle. Instead, this thing slides around, and my foot always ends up in a position that makes my toes go numb.I'd recommend this only for people with average to larger ankles/calves. Otherwise, you're not really going to get much benefit because your foot will not stay in the correct position. 3Give it a try. This splint is working so far. I have had Achilles Tendonitis for a while. The doctor injected it in November which worked wonders but it wore off a couple months ago. I agree with some of the other reviewers about the buckles being hard to reach if you are wearing the splint on the right leg. They end up being on the outside and pretty difficult rebuckle. If they would make left and right boots that would be great but I'm sure it might raise the cost. Other than that, I have had pretty good results. I noticed a difference after only one night. This splint is pretty comfortable to wear and it has a rubber sole attached which makes it easy for those midnight trips to the bathroom. This splint is much more affordable than the $300 ones you would get from your doctor. Give it a try. 5Great valueI've had plantar fasciitis for about 2 months and decided to try a night splint to see if it helps. This was the least expensive one by far so I figured I'd give it a try. My left foot hurt much worse than the right, so I wore this for a few nights on the left. It wasn't instant relief, but after a few nights I noticed the pain had lessened quite a bit, and I actually felt more pain in the right foot when getting out of bed. So this splint apparently works. It's so cheap I ordered another for the right foot. After wearing these for a few weeks, my plantar fasciitis has lessened enough that I started running again. The large size fits well enough on my size 10 foot. It is easy to put on with the 3 velcro straps and comfortable enough for what it is. It feels like wearing ski boots to bed and it takes some getting used to, but I imagine any hard splint is the same. I read a review on a different splint that offered tips on wearing it for the most comfortable fit, and it works with this one too. Tighten the shin strap the tightest, tighten the ankle strap firm but not as tight, and leave the foot strap loose enough to slip 2 fingers under. It still allows the foot to remain at a 90 degree angle, but doesn't cut off circulation during the night or cause pain. It worked well for me.As for cons, the velcro straps are really long and seem to be made for tree trunks, instead of human legs, but they still work. You'll just have a lot of extra strap left dangling after tightening them. It still gets 5 stars from me because it does what its supposed to do, at a third of the price of other splints on Amazon. How can you beat that? 5Perfect for my achilles tendonitis! Beats the $200 brace my ortho sold me!I have achilles tendonitis, and my orthopedist put me in a splint. The one from his office was too tall! It was causing me to have the worst calf cramps. A friend is a physical therapist and she recommended this one. It beats the $200 one from my ortho!!! So much more comfy, so much lighter. I did have to take the "foot ramp" out of the front to hold my foot in the alignment my doc wanted, but it's easy to do. It's just velcro'd in, so yank it out and you're good to go! This is lighter, cooler and so much more comfortable. But, it holds my foot right where it's supposed to be. 5Well made & Good price!I got this splint/boot for recent and future heel spur, bursitis, & plantar faciitis flareups. This holds the foot in the 90 degree position you need for proper heeling. Plus the removable wedge included gives the toes a nice extra stretch if needed. And for $20, it's very economical. I found the padding very comfortable. Forget walking easily in this, however, other than just getting up briefly. But with the quick release clips, that's not a big deal, actually once your straps are adjusted for fit, getting this off and on is pretty simple. TIP: I found it easiest to put on and take off when sitting on a chair or ottoman that was lower, about knee high; also, when putting on, have the straps off to the left, clear of the boot with the boot flat as possible on the floor. I also wear a sock while the boot is on to help keep it clean, and the sock helps with keeping things snug too. This type of splint/boot it best to put on at night in bed or when you are going to be seated for a while with your foot propped-up on a stool, ottoman, recliner, etc... I'm a big guy at 260 lbs. and I got the large size splint. I'm very satisfied, and I recommend this quality made splint. 5
