Customer Reviews

Best fit for ski bootI bought this for a ski boot.Like: buying a size smaller and that it is narrower meant I did not have to cut it to size. Just slip it in. The arch support helped tremendously. Seriously I never thought arch support was so essential in ski boots since I never had this problem in my usual shoes.Dislike: actually nothing. Fit well, support well and I had a great time at the slopes without foot pain. 5Was under the impression that Superfeet insoles provided arch support???I have been operating under the impression that Superfeet insoles were designed to provide arch support. This is my first pair, advertised as "High profile" (high arch support), and they don't touch the arch of my foot anywhere other than the very outside edge of my foot. The only part of my foot bearing weight is my heel and pad of my for foot. I have always know I have high arches but I must really be a freak of nature. I have found arch supports that do provide support to my feet but it hasn't been easy. I hope the insulation and reflective materiel on these do what it claims otherwise I just wasted $60. 3Glad I found these.I have been using Superfeet inserts for about 20 years. I started wearing these when I had a heel spur and the podiatrist wanted to charge me a $200 for inserts. After a month of "specialized" stuff not working, these had me feeling better in 3 days. It wasn't until I was telling a friend and he found these, REDhots. I've been getting mine from REI and never knew of these REDhot inserts. YUP, got a set the next day. These do offer a little more warmth in the cold than the regular green or orange inserts. 5Always worth buying footbedsI put a pair of these footbeds in a new pair of mountaineering boots. I always throw away the stock footbeds in my ski boots, cycling shoes or hiking boots. My other footbeds range from full-on custom made orthotics, through heat moldable footbeds. These are the first pair of Superfeet I've bought and they're at the low-end of the price range I'd spend. That said, they were very comfortable and I have no complaints, which means five stars for the price. My feet have stayed warm using them, but no way to objectively assess whether the Outlast treatment really helped here. I still puzzle why manufacturers can sell $300 mountaineering boots and $700 ski boots with foot-beds they made from toilet paper, but given they do, I'd recommend these insoles... 5Great at firstThese took a couple of days to break in as the heel cup is a harder plastic. However, once they were broken in they were very comfortable to wear, they follow me between shoes now. They're also very effective for keeping in heat and not losing it to the pavement. I put them to the test working a long string of nights downtown, all on concrete and asphalt where the heat had been getting sucked out of my feet and they were great. The reflective coating on the bottom of mine seems to have worn off rather quickly though and I'm not sure how effective they are any more at retaining heat. That happened within, at most, a month of use. 2Too much heel lift for skiingI skied on these for almost a season. I was very frustrated because I was having trouble getting consistent pressure on my tips, my tails kept breaking loose, my quads hurt and generally felt off balance - especially off piste. I thought my new Rossi E88's were to blame, but then skied with my friends brother who is a master boot fitter. He suspected my heel was too high and this (counter-intuitively) was pushing me backward or into the "back seat". In the lodge, he inspected the Superfeet and was surprised that a foot-bed sold specifically for skiing would presume to alter the skiers geometry; it's lifting your heel about 4mm. That's a lot.If you have poor dorsiflexion (i.e. tight calves/poor ankle flexibility), heel lift may actually be a good thing, but that should be done with lifts after an evaluation. It's a quality product and, I'm sure, great for other footwear. If you're here for skiing - look at the SuperFeet Carbon. 2but happy that I switched out the standard insoles that came ...A bit of a pain in the ass to get them into the ski boots and they take a few runs to get accustomed to, but happy that I switched out the standard insoles that came with the boots for these. Much better feeling at the end of long day of skiing and they do help support the arch in my foot. 4Better than SpencoI bought Spenco padded inserts because they were more cushy in my old ski boots. But they took up too much room - I tried cutting the toe off the pad so my toes would have wiggle room to stay warm. That was either the problem or the pads just didn't work because after a day of skiing my feet were sore. (I've skied many days before in my old boots without issue - so it was most likely the missing toe part of the insole.)Decided to do it right and get Smartfeet. They are more compact but so far so good. Not sure how they do it, because I don't feel much cushion. After a day of skiing, my feet aren't sore. Can't quite tell if the boots are warmer. I always rely upon neoprene boot covers - best purchase ever for staying warm. Between the new Smartfeet and the covers, I have no issues staying warm. 5Very Happy - High Volume and WarmI'm very (5 stars) happy with my purchase, but you should read all the reviews if you're considering the Red Hot. It is true that these footbeds are 'high volume' so keep that in mind if you are considering them. I previously used the green Superfeet plus a pair of simple shoe liners (the $3 kind you can get anywhere) inserted underneath the Superfeet to take top-to-bottom volume out of my boots (Lange RX110). The Red Hot allowed me to remove that simple liner and tipped me up just a bit more in the heel for zero pressure on my left navicular and just a little on my right - less than with the green (I need to have the right boot punched out a bit, but that's an existing issue). Also, my first use was on a 30F windy day with about 10" of fresh snow and my feet stayed very warm all day. (It was a great April Fools Day joke for us in New England.) I'm not sure how much of that was actually due to the reflective liner or me knowing it had a reflective liner (placebo effect). Either way, I'm happy with the warmth and how they performed. 5Like most SuperFeetLike most SuperFeet, it is well constructed and provides an instant improvement over the lousy $2 original footbed included with most boots (even my $760 Scarpa Freedom SL's!). There hasn't been enough snow yet to try them out on the hill, so I will update this review later regarding the thermal insulation that is advertised to be worth the extra $10 these cost over the Coppers. My only complaint is they only offer the Red Hots with a single arch type, and the Red Hots are definitely not a shallow low profile design! 4
