Very helpful to me -- been getting a new one monthly for at least a yearI have a neuroma on one of my feet and my podiatrist suggested that I could relieve related pain somewhat by straightening my second toe using a daily application of Coban-style non-adhesive bandages. While the podiatrist told me that the bandages were best, she said that the PediFix was also helpful. After weeks of frustration with the bandages, I began using the PediFix. Since then, I've been buying a new one monthly (they last longer than one month, but they do start to get ragged) and I have no urge whatsoever to switch back to bandages. They have the dual benefit of straightening the toe and adding a little cushion under the neuroma. It's not a fix; the neuroma isn't going anywhere, but the PediFix helps me walk around with reasonable comfort. 4DefectiveThe last couple of these that I got did not help straighten the toe. The elastic was not uniform--the edges were tighter than the middle. So, when I adjusted it, I could either cut off the circulation if I got it tight enough to straighten the joint, or I could keep it looser, which did nothing to straighten the joint.By taking half of a popsicle stick, applying molefoam to it, and placing that, molefoam down, between the top of the toe and the top of the elastic loop, I got some benefit. 2Brilliant design but platform not built stiff enough to work - a simple modification however fixes it completely.Of all the toe-straightening devices this one is the superior design. It can be worn inside a shoe and it can be 100% effective in straightening a FLEXIBLE hammer toe when slightly modified. The problem is with the flat platform part -- it's way too soft. When you tighten the loop enough to straighten the toe, after walking around for a short time, the platform material will pucker and rise beneath the toe, allowing the toe to bend and completely negating the straightening effect. I cut a piece of semi-soft plastic from the side of a 64 oz bottle of drinking water -- not the crystal clear bottle but the more flexible translucent type -- and, using the toe straightener as a template, cut it to match the platform of the toe straightener. Then, using the plastic as a template, I cut a piece of self-adhesive moleskin to match and applied it to the plastic. Finally, using a box cutter (or any razor cutter or Exacto knife) I cut a small rectangle angle out of the moleskin/plastic platform just large enough for the toe loop to fit through. Now, placing the platform I made between the foot and the toe straightener, and pulling the loop through the rectangular hole, I have the perfectly functional toe straightener. Pedifix is a good company; let's hope they discover this defect and start producing these with a stiffer platform, "ready to use" 4Works well when used correctlyWorks well and is comfortable inside my shoe. The thing with these is to not OVER tighten them - gentle pressure will allow long term wear and that is what is needed (gentle correction over a long period). 5My feet don't look perfect, but they look good enough to show off ...I thought this would fail me but toe-siree! I've suffered with hammer toes all my life, thinking I needed surgery. My second toes seem long in comparison to the little ones, they are double jointed and curl downward. I could never wear sandals. While only surgery could make them shorter, this made them completely straight. My feet don't look perfect, but they look good enough to show off and that exceeded my expectations. After a few days they stay straight for hours after you take it off but like with any brace they will go back to normal so I will be wearing them for months. But that's no big deal because I forget I have them on. They are uncomfortable with shoes on so I took off a star. It definitely depends on your situation but it's worth a shot. 5Makes your feet cute again! This is a long way review so please forgive the writer and crusader in me! I get passionate about products that really work the way it says it should! A few years ago I broke my second toe which now has a raised knuckle and has not yet gone back to the way it was. I went to my doctor and said, I know that this is really shallow of me, with all of the tragedy in the world and much worse things that I ve been through, but I can t handle the fact that my foot will never be cute again in sandals. He has a great sense of humor and appreciates my jokes. I was joking because I was embarrassed to be worried about such a small thing. He laughed and told me not to worry so I ended up ordering this product. It is not just for looks that I bought this product because it does help heal by very gradually stretching that shortened, damaged ligament. But you must wear it all the time so I also wear in running shoes and closed toe high heels. But in sandals, it is just what I needed! It is flesh colored and the elastic holds my toe down where it should be so it really looks nice with sandals. (Be sure to test the tightness.. too tight is not good for circulation and too loose won t help... you will get used to what is perfect for you and you won t even know you were wearing it.). I love how it works in sandals! I mean if somebody took a closer look they would see the elastic strap over the toe, but there s no reason for anyone to want to take a closer look at your toes (unless they are ). The only problem is that the underneath flat part tends to slide out to the side and show when you are wearing sandals. But, AHA, I discovered a cure for this! I set it up where it needs to be. Then I put a SMALL spot of super glue under the center of the pad to secure it to the insole of my shoe. A small spot makes it very easy to just pull it out when you want to wash it or transfer it to a different shoe. Then another small spot on the next shoe. I actually have about three pairs of different colors that I wear in the summer. So I just glue one to my right shoe in each pair. I never have to remove the pad just for changing shoes. Because I rotate the shoes and try and stay out of the mud , I don t have to remove very often for washing either. AND I told my friend who has two arthritic bent toes side-by-side. She uses the double elastic product and it works equally well. The longer you leave a damaged or arthritic toe in that shape the harder it will be to actually correct it but even if it s been a while, it will still look a lot better! Try soaking your feet In hot Epsom salts and massage the toes to relax the ligament before you put your shoes on. That s just really good for your feet (and your hands massaging the toes) anyway to start your day with happy toes. If you think that this is just all too much trouble then I m pretty sure you don t have happy feet. It s a well-known scientific fact, discovered by the Chinese for many centuries that there is a definite connection between your feet and your head. 5Not for me.Made my toe more crooked. If there was an option to pull the strap the opposite direction it might have worked...but who knows. The large pad was kind of clumsy for a woman s size 8. Maybe better for a big man foot and toe. Product seems quality made overall but there was no mechanism to adhere the strap. It needed an additional fastener or Velcro or something similar 3Important Part of the PlanI've got all the available versions of this device - triple, double and single. If I have to wear closed toe shoes, then I generally put one version of these on in order to keep the knuckles of my hammer toes flexed down away from rubbing against the top of my shoes. The single is ambidextrous and works by strapping down one of your toes (it does not go over the big toe) with elastic loops threaded through a thinish, sightly cushy, fabric covered pad. Since I'm most concerned about my 2nd toe, that's the one I wear this on. The Single Toe device leaves an asymmetric overhang that the big toe must rest on and this bothers me a bit but may be fine for others. Rotating through the various versions is important for me to prevent irritation spots. It takes a little practice to get the hang of putting them on and having the loops tight enough but not too tight. I find I can wear them for hours but eventually they have to come off! Still, as part of addressing my hammer toes, together with good, roomy toe bed shoes, it is an essential. If you have trouble putting them on, try a move where you're pressing down the knuckle and pulling up the tip of the toe at the same time as you are sliding the loop on. In terms of durability, the edges fray and flake but that's only to be expected with use. 4If you are experiencing hammer toe and your doctor recommends ...If you are experiencing hammer toe and your doctor recommends a toe straightener, this is the one they will try to sell you for 6X the amount. This does work if you wear it daily which is much easier to do in the winter! I did see a significant change when using this! 4doesn't workThe picture of the item on the foot model (who obviously does not have hammer toes) makes the product look like it would work, but it doesn't work. Hammer toes are tough customers and need a very strong corrective action. Even when you crank down on the over-the-toe piece of this contraption, it's not enough to hold the hammer toe straight. Plus, cranking down on it cuts off toe circulation...wished it worked, but it doesn't.1Costly but good productThis price is for ONE. The Vive brand is $10.49 for a PAIR. That said, this Budin does seem to be a superior product. The elastic covers just a bit more of the toe and the pad under the foot is much softer and not as stiff. On the other hand ( or foot), it doesn t allow me to tighten the elastic quite as much as I d like. For this reason and the very high price, I m giving it 4, not 5 stars. 4Wonderful! Love them. After seeing 6 foot doctors without relief, I discovered these toe straighteners on my own. I can walk almost pain free now. I am so glad I finally found something to give me some relief. They can be machine washed without falling apart. The downside: They wear out fast with daily use. Buy several at a time. I am limited to the types of shoes I can wear, but it is a small price for the comfort they give me.5
