Still Inspiring Raves From MeEven a year later, product is still fabulously fragrant and flavorful. Price is amazingly low compared to teabags. Adding as little as 1/4 tsp to green tea changes flavor from mildly bitter to slightly sweet. Product includes some fine/powdered mint leaves, unlike the Numi tea bags. If you don't like grounds in your tea, it's easy to get rid of the fines by shaking the product a few times (over the sink) in a steel mesh tea-making container. Spearmint tea can lower testosterone, research shows, but it takes 2 doses a day for this effect (maybe good for polycystic ovarian syndrome but bad for sex drive in older men and women?)5There are LIVE bugs in my tea!!!I would give this negative stars if I would. I always buy numi and have never had a problem (or at least not one I noticed, which mortifies me even more). I store these in an airtight container as soon as I get them. My sister called me today saying she had bugs on her same tea. I went to look at mine and sure enough, stare long enough and you will notice little brown LIVE bugs crawling around the tea. Once you see them, they look huge. I am sooo grossed out. I thought Numi is the top of the top, cream of the crop brand but this is just disgusting. Now, I understand organic means that it can be infested with bugs because it is not heavily sprayed with pesticides as my hubby joked but isn't there some way they can quality control for this not to happen? This has seriously tainted my purchase of loose leaf teas from any brand really. But I certainly won't be paying the high price of numi to be drinking live steamed bugs. Maybe it's a bad batch but I won't take any more chances. I don't pay Numi prices to have to stare down my tea for live creatures. I pay to drink quality tea without worrying about harmful pesticides.1LOTS OF BUGS in the teaTrying to submit this review 2nd time. My first one disappeared. Good tea with alive bugs :( Real organic. They are sleeping when you open the package (so it's hard to notice) and start moving around once they get an oxygen (see pic). Gross :(2Favorite teaI love, love, love this tea! It has no caffeine, so you can drink it any time. In the winter-tea-drinking-season (early fall to late spring), I always make a pot in the morning and pour it in my travel mugs to be drunk throughout the day. Usually is gone by noon. I also like it in the summer, but not as much. On some days I doctor it up with milk and honey, but most days I drink it unsweetened and without milk. I believe it warms me twice, once as the hot tea (duh) and then the spices have this second warming effect that warms my soul or just makes me happy, like the first warm coffee in the morning. I have also used leftover tea, heated it in the microwave and added instant coffee to make a chai flavored coffee - that is pretty good too.5The perfect mint tea - iced or hot (but please, iced!)My family loves fresh mint tea. I brew a gallon every day. We have purchased pretty much every brand of mint tea available, and we even grow our own mint for tea. This is our favorite brand, and we will definitely continue purchasing this tea.If you aren't sure about mint tea, just come to my house. Or buy this and try it.(1) Fill your gallon pitcher halfway with water, and add 1/2 cup of sugar.(2) Fill your kettle or pan with water, and add 8 tablespoons of this tea.(3) Remove it from the heat just before it starts to boil, and then let it steep for about 3-5 minutes.(4) Pour the tea (through a strainer) into your gallon pitcher, and then stir until the sugar is dissolved. (Remember, your gallon pitcher should already be half full of water, and your teakettle or pan should have enough water to fill it the rest of the way)(5) Fill your glass to the top with ice, then pour the warm tea into the glass. Perfect for any hot summer day.5TERRIBLEI love this tea as sold in the tea bags, so I was so very disappointed at how awful the bulk is. The two taste NOTHING ALIKE!!! The bulk tastes like it has rat poison in it and leaves a terrible after taste. So disappointing. I tried removing the round spices, but it's still got an awful after taste. This should not be allowed that the tea bag version and the bulk version should taste nothing alike. I can't imagine anyone can drink this tea. For now I'm sticking with the tea bags since I love those and I don't drink caffeine anymore, so it's my coffee replacement.1Big Bag of TeaI was surprise to get such a huge bag for the price (i did not read the details). I am happy with the purchase but the only reason I did not give it the full five stars is because I feel the leaves are cut to small. It tends to go out a lot through my strainer. Flowers were whole with lots of small bits. Taste is what I'm used to for chamomile so I can't say if it was better than another chamomile. I bought this because it is organic. Unlike others, chamomile does not really relax me, definitely not enough to fall asleep. But's it herbal, organic, and provides a good hot drink to sip while preparing for sleep. May look for another herbal tea for the night, not because this product was inferior, but I'd like to try something else. Maybe a detox tea that also tastes good, and works for night-time drinking. As for the lemon, I cannot taste it. After many cups of this tea, I still cannot taste the lemon.UPDATE: Feb 14 2015. BUGS in the tea.TO BE FAIR TO NUMI, I transferred the tea from the original packaging into my see-through canister. I've done this before and never had problems with my loose leaf teas. I had washed and dried the canister before putting in the chamomile loose leaf. Last night, I saw the loose leaves moving. Tiny bugs were crawling across the clear surface of the canister and among the tea.I have been drinking this tea since I got it since Sep or Oct of last year. I stopped drinking it for about a month. Amazon was, of course, extremely apologetic and considerate about the issue of bugs. My concern was not the refund which, rightfully, I felt was not a consideration since I had been drinking this tea for several months and during that time, did not see any bugs.I am wondering if the EGGS OF THOSE BUGS WERE IN THE TEA IN THE FIRST PLACE?Did TRANSFERRING THE TEA CAUSE THE BUGS TO INFEST - IF SO, THEY WERE DORMANT IN THE TEA, OR WERE IN EGG FORM AND ABOUT TO HATCH? (Is hatch the right word?)How can I KNOW FOR CERTAIN THAT LOOSE LEAF TEA DOES NOT CONTAIN BUGS?I have pictures and they're quite disturbing. I intend to write to Numi with the pictures and ask them about this.UPDATE: Feb 25, 2015.I sent picture of the lot number details on bag and, also, pictures of the bugs in the tea to Numi several days ago, and asked them to update me. Have not heard back from them on their investigation.UPDATE: Oct 26, 2015I see that two other reviewers also found bugs in their tea from Numi. After my last communication with Numi in February about the bugs ( I sent them pictures ), I never heard from them again.I stopped buying their tea after the bug and after-sale experience.1Clove heavenThis tea contains so much clove and allspice that one can barely taste the rooibos flavor of the tea. This is not a bad thing for me, because I love the flavor of both clove and allspice. Also, both spices have reported health benefits attached to them. I drink this chai in the evening because it contains no caffeine. In the morning I have a black tea chai. For lunch it's usually a flavored green tea.I used to use tea bags, until discovering that they can leach chemicals that can be harmful. Plus, loose tea just tastes better than bagged tea. If you switch to loose tea be sure to get a teapot that handles loose tea, preferably one that has multiple temperature levels for different types of tea.5Just plain roobiosI was super disappointed when they stopped selling this at my local stores. I was so excited to see not only could I buy it on amazon but in bulk too. I saw some good and not so good review so I thought I would risk it. So far hasn t paid off.Opened it today and so excited for that spiced smell. Nothing just plain roobios with hints of clove. Gave it a good shake and brewed it anyways hoping it would be okay. Nope!Seriously it s just plain roobios tea no spices at all other then some large clove seeds that really in their whole state don t even give off a clove taste.So disappointed! I ll add my not worth buying I may try one more cup and steep it for like an hr and see if that make a difference but I doubt it. Plan on returning and waiting yet more time for a perfect cup of roobios chia tea.2
