Cheap and poor design. Avoid.Flimsy plastic bracket broke within the first two uses, even though the device limits the amount of force it can apply. There is only a thin piece of plastic that is holding the whole thing up and whoever designed this must not have put any safety factor in when determining the strength of the bracket. Bracket came crashing onto my head while I was ratcheting this piece of junk up, so there is the added danger of being smacked in the head if you buy this thing. Won't be purchasing anything from this manufacturer ever again. 1Works well, but had to make two changesI have bulging discs in my neck and my neurosurgeon had prescribed a water bag type of traction device a few years ago to stretch my neck when I was having numbness in my hands, but it was always a pain in the neck (pun intended) to find someplace to store a full water bag or to have to refill the bag every time I wanted to use it. So, when my neck discomfort and hand numbness returned, I decided to try the NeckPro.The first issue was the same one another reviewer mentioned: the harness tends to smash your head. Luckily, I had the spacer bar from my water bag device, which has notches for the harness rings at various distances from the center, so I removed the harness from the hook and put the bar in its place. The harness rings fit perfectly in the notches. Problem solved. I agree with the other reviewer that a spacer bar should have been included in the package. The second issue was that the straps on the harness are too short. I have an 18" neck and the harness was literally choking me when I got the straps to where they'd stay put. I ended up having to extend the straps with some industrial strength Velcro. I don't know why they made the straps so short.Other than those two issues, I didn't notice any difference in comfort level between the two devices: they both hurt my jaw the same amount. It's something I had to get used to previously and I'm sure I'll get used to it again.I really like the easily adjustable force on the NeckPro; it sure beats having to adjust the water level in a bag. It also makes positioning the harness on my head much easier because I can take up the slack to get everything situated and then crank up the force, all without leaving my chair. 4Does it work? I may never know.I remember my father using one of these traction devices years ago with great success, so when I started to experience symptoms related to the compressed disks in my neck, I decided I would give this unit a try. What attracted me was the fact that a ratchet mechanism provided the traction rather than unwieldy metal weights or a water bag.I tried the unit once per instructions and did not experience any pressure on my head or scalp due to the designer's omission of a spreader bar. I believe this was an issue for some reviewers. During my first session, however, my jaw started to tire, since my jaw muscles were constantly resisting the upward pressure from the strap.I used the device for the first time in the evening, and then I went to bed. In the morning I awoke with a sore jaw. In my research of cervical traction methods, I had read that some people cannot tolerate pressure on the jaw. Since I had never experienced jaw discomfort, I thought I would be safe in at least trying the device. Considering the fact I was in pain 10 hours after using the unit just once, I did not want to continue using the item and potentially develop more serious jaw problems. The pain lasted for a couple of hours before gradually subsiding. The question of whether this product works well has more to do with whether or not it is appropriate for a particular individual. I can say that it applied traction evenly and comfortably to my neck during the actual treatment session, but personally I will not be using it again. 3Plastic, dangerous junkPlastic garbage. Bought the previous version (for the same price) and loved it, but it was all steel. This version is flimsy to the point of being dangerous and will absolutely fail catostrphically. It s literally your neck; don t risk it.(Also, nice work really screwing people with the no-return policy) 1Buy the original NeckPro instead. The NeckPro II does more harm than good.A few years ago, I found the original NeckPro and it was the best form of therapy for my neck pain. Recently, I noticed that the halter was a bit too worn down to be effective so I looked online to order a replacement. I saw the NeckPro II and thought it would be an improvement on an already great product. However, I was completely wrong. All the parts to the NeckPro II seem to be made of a cheap plastic as opposed to the original NeckPro, which contained sturdy metal parts. When using this new device, the cord would not lock in place when increasing tension. I would pull on the cord to set the proper level of tension but when I would release it, the cord holding the halter would slip down causing my neck to jolt slightly. I tried using it a few times and found it to be doing more harm than good as the jolting from the cord caused some major neck irritation. I immediately looked into returning the product but sadly realized they had a "no return policy". I wish I would have noticed that prior to ordering. Typically this is a warning sign. If you are considering this product, try to find the original NeckPro instead. This is a major downgrade and did more damage to my neck than relief. 1Good idea, mediocre execution. This traction device works okay. The problem with it is that the mechanism slips. It is defined to slip when more than 20 lbs of force is applied to it, to prevent injury, but in practice it seems to slip whenever it wants. Sometime at much less than 20 lbs of force. This makes it hard to get a consistent traction of your neck. And if the device slips suddenly, while under tension, it can cause pain or exacerbate an injury. Good idea, less than perfect execution. 3GREAT BUT WITH MAJOR DESIGN FLAW !!!I have broken my neck and back twice and have over 40 years of damage to my neck and spine, i have been using other traction units for all that time and this one is one of my favorites, it's device to thighten the tension works just great and love it compared to the ones with weights or using a water bag, one of the other comments i read was 100% true about the support bracket which comes with this unit and is a major flaw so if your not handy or have someone that can mount it with additional support there is a great chance it will come off the door during traction like mine did and i was prewarned by the other comment i saw, i use the brace from my old traction unit which is excellent and much better and will not come off during use, to use the original bracket i had to notch the top of the door out then close the door with the bracket on and it is impossible for it to pop off but i still use the bracket from my old unit which is excellent and just left the original in the box, just know if you decide to buy this unit the only major drawback is the bracket you can't just hang it on the door and use it without a good chance it will come off and strike you in the head you must use additional support of some sort on the bracket, the major part of the unit is great just the bracket is my major complaint..... 4Awesome Product - Easy to UseI think this is a great product. I didn't have the issues of the discomfort some of the other reviewers have had so I don't need to buy the spreader brace to keep the fabric wider. I noticed an improvement in the way my neck/shoulders felt after the first use. I used it 3 times in the first week and haven't needed to use it for almost 2 weeks now. You'll want to ratchet the tension slowly while sitting vertical with an arched back and shoulders back. Then after 30 seconds or so you can ratchet another couple clicks increasing the tension. It only takes a few minutes with this device to get lasting results.I had a pinched nerve in my neck causing shoulder pain that shot down through my elbow down into my little finger. This actually saves me money from going every week to the chiropractor.I recommend this product! 5Works well, a little confusing to hang upI must say it was only the photograph here on Amazon that helped me figure out how to hang this device on the door! I admit to being not the most mechanical sort - and the device is pretty much assembled - but which way and how to place the hinge on the door was not obvious to me, and the instructions were not well done at all.I have used it for several weeks now and I have felt some relief with my neck (I have chronic neck issues including 'reversed' neck curve). It seems to be well made, and the velcro straps on the canvas that holds the head is strong and adheres well. The thing has a rather ominous appearance hanging up but it is too much trouble to take up and put down repeatedly. I hide mine behind a curtain! The system is pretty simple once you've tried it once - you just hear the clicks as you pull the strap, and that tells you that you are lifting your head another level; you start out with a small stretch and add more gradually.Strongly advise you to think long and hard and do some research before purchasing since you can't return it! Also make sure you have a place to put it where you can stand to be for awhile - I did not have any doors that faced a TV for example, and you'd be surprised how long 10 or 15 minutes can seem with your faced scrunched up and just hanging there! I ended up putting mine on my curtain rod in the living room, so I could at least watch tv.Also it is true as others mentioned here that there is a lot of pulling on the chin by the head strap, so for people with TMJ this may not be a good idea. Used with proper caution and care, this is a bargain compared to ongoing chiro or PT visits, or some of the other devices available. 4One StarThe plastic door bracket broke during the first use. 1
