Absolutely fantastic ankle stabilizer - I use in hiking boot.I sprained my ankle 3 weeks ago. Completely rolled it and felt every tendon snap and crack as I went down. Previously broke the same foot along with a good roll every other year. My ankle swelled immediately. Mostly on the outside, but both the inside and outside and bottom of my foot turned a nasty black and blue and red. For 3 days (highly suggested) I followed RICE. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevate. Following that, I did light stretches daily (flex and alphabet). I stopped if I felt pain. On the third week to the day, I strapped this on (brand new to me) and wore it in my high top leather hikers and hiked a small mountain. Some areas were steep. I worried, but at the same time, I kept pushing as I felt no pain. This brace is a lifesaver. I found it referenced on someone's hiking blog and just kept going back to read about it. I am extremely excited that I made the right choice and I will buy another. I'm a size 9.5 regular women's leather hiker. I purchased a "small" due to reviews suggesting if it's too big, it can wrinkle up and irritate. (I read every review). Most reviews state sneaker or shoe so I was a little worried. However, I had no problem still tying my hiking boot. Love this stabilizer. 5Get the size right!I'm transitioning from a boot to an ankle brace due to a broken bone in my foot with torn tendons going up behind my ankle bone. My ortho doc wanted me to wear a lace up ankle brace for the final two weeks of my recovery. I noticed conflicting reviews about sizing. My size measurements put me exactly on the line between a large and an extra large. I decided to call the manufacturer to get their recommendations. They said that if you are on the margin go with the smaller size. They were exactly right. I wanted to wear the brace fairly snug to give me adequate support and the large size is just right. As I have slim ankles, I can tell if I had the extra large it would have been too large and the lacing wouldn't have been able to lace up tight enough. So, if in doubt go with the smaller size. I've never worn one of these before so I'm not sure how they should feel but it does seem to provide good ankle support. It doesn't provide much support in the foot but I guess they're not designed for that purpose. I am able to wear them in most of my shoes but if your shoes are snug in the heel area it could be tight. 4Best ankle brace! (and I've tried many)This brace is great. I broke my ankle around 6 years ago in a high school lacrosse game, and have had issues with the ankle ever since. I wore various casts for around a year and went to PT for a little while but never did the exercises at home (didn't realize I'd start slowing down a little bit in my twenties lol). My ankle still aches sometimes and it gives out easily and rolls a lot. My doctor said that ankle injuries almost never heal 100%, and you can lose the elasticity of the tendons in your ankle, leaving them perma-wobbly. SO, I need some support when I run. I have tried more minimalistic braces, but they usually don't give the right amount of support. This brace works so well for two reasons: 1. the laces (yes, annoying and less attractive, but it makes all the difference. This also ensures that the brace will be tight enough even if you order one a little too big). 2. The side straps (totally immobilize your ankle to keep it straight and at a 45 degree angle, which is essential for healing). This brace is exactly the same as the one that my doctor gave me after I got out of the casts, so it's practically medical grade. I got the white one because it looks better with my running shoes. I was worried about it getting gross but the box says you can machine wash the brace. I wear a 6.5 women's shoe (U.S.), and I ordered a small. Fits perfectly. The sizing chart on the box is slightly different from the one posted here so I'll include a picture of that. Perfect overall for serious stability. Probably too constricting for someone looking for light or moderate support. 5Great for distance runners!!!!I don't typically leave reviews but when I find a product that exceeds expectations and may provide information that may help others make a decision then I will...I recently rolled my ankle on a long training run, it was very swollen and had a large amount of bruising within 2 hours, I did have X-rays done as I was concerned my racing season was over before it had started, luckily for me there were no fractures.. I immediately began searching for some type of stabilizing brace and found the ASO brace, it arrived 4 days after my initial injury.Since I had no pain bearing weight on my foot and also no pain when flexing my ankle front to back, only had pain flexing my ankle outwards, I decided to give it a try. I wear a men's size 9 and ordered a medium which fit very well, my initial concern was a loss of flexibility and irritation that may have caused blistering or chaffing, fortunately I had neither, it was worn over a sock and I do wear calf guards so there was no part of the brace touching the skin...my original plan was just an easy run to see how it felt and if I was feeling pain, I'm happy to say after 60 minutes and 8.5 miles I had no pain and no irritaition on any part of my foot! There was one point where I felt like my ankle was beginning to roll outwards but I believe the brace did its job and prevented that from happening.Overall, I do feel this does help with stability not only for runners but for anyone with instability issues, the fit and feel are very good, I am guessing that on future runs I will not even notice it's there....I hope this helps!!! 5They don't accept returns!I'm rating this at a 1 for one simple reason - I can't return it! We ordered this because my daughter's volleyball coach recommended it specifically (she rolled her ankle a couple of times). We received it as promised, and the product itself seems fine. We used their sizing tool when we ordered it (very important) and there were no issues there. However, it was a pretty good chore putting on for my daughter. During season, she often times has very little time to dress out between her last class and a game, so we wanted something she could put on faster. We were going to need to order another for her other ankle, so she was concerned it would definitely take too long for two. So, I jump on the Amazon website and start the process to return the item as I've done many times. One problem: I get a message that the seller doesn't accept returns! I read Amazon's "help" link and they point out that many sellers accept returns but not all. But that's ok - you can simply view the seller's profile page before ordering an item and return they're return policy! Great! It's nice and hidden away... you drop the $27 bucks, assuming (yes, I now know not to assume when it comes to Amazon) that you can return it if the fit is wrong or you simply don't like it. Fool me once, shame on you; I won't be fooled twice.Consider yourself warned. If you're ordering this to try it out thinking you can return it like most items, think again. Just go to Dick's or Academy Sports and try them on there. 1Tried many braces - this one is top 3I've purchased 5 different ankle braces and will post this same review for each one.I was looking for ankle brace the would give the most lateral support.I've injured both my ankles while playing ultimate Frisbee. I love the game and will continue playing no matter what.So wearing support is now a must for me otherwise I easily roll my ankle on a sharp turn or a stop during the game.So again, my intent is to use ankle support for already injured ankle while playing active sports.Brace that only helps "prevent" injury is useless, I'm already injured. For Ultimate Frisbee I need "ultimate" ankle support. So here is my list.1. Best support and price#1 Laced Ankle Brace With Stabilizing Strap For Flexible Support. Breathable Neoprene Braces Made By Product Stop. (Large)Plastic on both sides makes all the difference. I can tighten it with the straps as tight as I want. Foot stays flexible. I've played Frisbee at full strength and didn't have any pain from my injured right ankle.2. Best support as well, but expensiveZamst A2-DX Left Ankle Brace, Black, LargeWhen I read in one of negative reviews for this product that it is too complicated to put on, that was a selling point for me.Brace that is easy to put on cannot give good support. A good brace would mold into your foot, it shouldn't be easy to put it on.So I got it, played at full speed and it was most of the time very safe. The only thing I didn't like is that material of the boot and the straps can stretch a little, so it make it quite flexible, but would let the ankle roll in some really extreme twist. I would sacrifice some of flexibility for a guarantee that it wouldn't let the ankle roll no matter what.3. These 3 braces have the same design, good basic support, but not good for ultimate gameASO Ankle Stabilizer, Black, X-LargeBest price, design and durabilityMcDavid 195 Deluxe Ankle Brace with Strap (Black, Large)More expensive than ASO, nicer look, good durability, but I don't like design of the straps (crossing straps should start from the back of the foot)Shock Doctor Ultra Wrap Lace Ankle Support (Black, Large,9-9.5)Price is OK, but not very durable. 7-10 games destroyed it quickly. 4Recommend for Ankle Fracture RecoveryAfter my cast was removed, from a surgical repair for a triple ankle fracture, with dislocation, I used the ASO ankle stabilizer instead of the walking boot. This stabilizer is the same one offered at my Orthopedic surgeon's offer, at a fraction of their price. This brace is comfortable, easy to adjust and it washes well, I would recommend the ASO stabilizer for ankle injury recovery. 5The brace Rocks, Holds Rock Solid! This is a great ankle brace. I sprained my ankle in late June and the doctor provided a compression brace that was not doing the trick. I spoke with my physical therapist and he recommended this ASO Ankle Stabilizer. What a difference. The ASO Ankle Stabilizer made my ankle rock solid. It comfortable and fit inside all of my shoes. This made it perfect to ware in the yard, hiking, or at work in front of a customer. The ASO Ankle Stabilizer ties like a boot as you slip it on over your foot. Then it comes with two straps that go under your foot and come back up on either side. A large Velcro strap locks it all together across the front of your shin. The fabric is a thin nylon but it is completely non-stretch and locks your ankle in.You can position your foot (bend your foot up or down) to fine tune where you foot is held. My physical therapist had me put on the brace and while I had my foot on the floor lean forward then tighten the straps. This gave my foot a more natural position for walking.A couple things to note: While putting the side straps around the bottom of your foot, make sure they are positioned well back over our heel. When I first used this brace the I put the straps over the arch of my foot. This lead to circulation issues and my foot began to hurt. Place the straps closer to your heel and you will be fine.Secondly, when lacing up the brace I tended to over tighten the laces. This was unnecessary because the support comes from the straps. Don't tighten the laces too much. 5WRONG SIZE GUIDE and NO RETURNSThe website description for size based on the second product image with the size chart differs than the product size guide on the product box itself leading consumers to buy the wrong size. I am a woman s 7 so bought S but product guide then reveals I m better suited for a XS. For something as important as an ankle brace, this is clearly not usable. And NOT ELIGIBLE for returns. 1Amazing fix for my flat feetI know it's not exactly the intended purpose, but it works. Having flat feet means my ankle joints are rolled inward a lot (pronated). This isn't a problem for everyone that has it, but it makes my ankles have chronic pain of various levels. Usually not too bad, but after a day of walking or standing all day, it's debilitating. I discovered that forcibly holding my feet in a normal shape (holding the arch up) results in less pain over time, but that's really hard to do all day every day. So I thought these might help. Boy, do they ever! The very first day I worked in the yard all day long without a bit of pain at the time or the next day (which is usually the worst part). Walking on rough ground used to be awful, a small rock or hole unexpectedly changing my ankle angle side to side would almost bring me to the ground, and it seemed these events accumulated throughout the day into severe pain. With these braces on, that is virtually eliminated. I could probably jog on a gravel road. The ankles cannot get moved enough to hurt. And on top of all that, they're actually comfortable. I don't even want to take them off at the end of the day. Obviously they aren't intended for long term all day use, but I don't see how it could be worse than what I was experiencing. I'll probably end up only wearing them when my ankles are hurting or when I do activities that would otherwise cause them to hurt. I don't know if anyone else has the same problem I do, but I hope my insight helps. I can't recommend them enough. 5
