No longer pharmaceutical grade.No longer pharmaceutical grade. This product no longer contains the Sigma Tau logo. While I endorse taking ALC for those similarly afflicted, I cannot recommend the current version offered under the Jarrow brand. One should look elsewhere to brands sourced from either Lonza ("L-Carnipure" TM) or Sigma Tau ("Biosint" TM), another reputable pharmaceutical grade manufacturer based in Italy. (Doctor's Best source their ALC from Sigma Tau and carry its trademark on their labels. TwinLab, currently one of the most popular brands of ALC on Amazon, sources its product from Lonza -- at least for as long as its label retains the "L-Carnipure" trademark.) In most cases, the brand label will display the words "pharmaceutical grade." The premium charged here is relatively modest (~20%) and well worth it. 1I can actually see the difference in my brain function ...I can actually see the difference in my brain function especially regarding memory. On days I use this I don't struggle remembering names,etc. 5best supplement out thereCarnitine changed my life. I've suffered from anxiety, depression, low energy and this changed all of it. I've taken countless anxiety medications and anti-depressants to no avail. Give it a few weeks to adjust and I promise you'll see a difference. I like to take these before I exercise too, gives me that extra boost. 5Firbromyalgia energy boostI may have firbromyalgia, whatever the case, I have severe energy drops and brain fog, especially towards the end of the work day. I picked up another version of Acetyl L-Carnitine from Walgreens, but I almost think the blend is a bit acidic, even though it helped with my energy. So, instead, I ordered this from Amazon. Overall, I find that this generally stops the energy crashes I was having. This blend doesn't seem to have whatever was in the Walgreens version.If you deal with any type of pain disorder or something that makes you tired all the time, or causes energy crashes, this really does seem to help. The dream side effect is real though. I don't find I have more 'vivid' dreams like some reviewers, but I think it is just that I remember more of my dreams on a regular basis. I don't find it off-putting and the brain fog seems to go hand in hand with the energy crashes, so overall, I think this helps both. 5Dramatically improved my narcolepsy!I have narcolepsy. A 2013 study from the University of Tokyo suggests that narcoleptics suffer from low serum carnitine levels, so after reading about it I decided to give l-carnitine supplements a try. I can't over emphasize what a dramatic difference this product has made for me, particularly when it comes to improving my mental acuity. I've been taking this particular formula by Jarrow, twice a day, and I almost feel like my narcolepsy has become a non-issue! I still have to take a 15 min nap in the afternoon, but short of that the constant intrusion of mental decline that accompanied the vacillations of sleepiness during the day has disappeared. I actually feel like a normal human being. This formula by Jarrow is the only l-carnitine product I have ever tried, so I can't really speak to how this formula compares to some other l-carnitine products. What I can say is that I feel no reason to try another product, this one works so incredibly well. I don't write a lot of reviews, but I felt I had some responsibility to my fellow narcoleptics out there who might stumble across this. It has been amazing for me. 5Seems to be helping my 96 year old mother with dementia and aphasiaAcetyl L-Carnitine is an amino acid that is a building block of protein. It is naturally produced by the body and found in food, but the production declines with age. This supplement is part of the daily regimen that I give to my 96 year old mother who has dementia and aphasia. With this supplement and others, we have managed to greatly reduce the progression of dementia. In fact, we have seen improvements in her condition. The benefits of Acetyl L-Carnitine are: Readily converts to acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that is critical for learning and concentration. Carnitine is a neuronal energizer and is essential for the production of energy by the mitochondria, powerhouse of the cell. Transports fatty acids to the mitochondrial membrane where they are made into energy, and also helps remove waste products from mitochondria-created energy production.In my research, I have learned that this is a recommended and beneficial supplement for a person with dementia. 5Not for people on medication for hypothyroidismIf you are on medication for hypothyroidism, please check with your doctor before taking any L Carnitine. I started feeling very strange within days of taking this. After some research I found out this interferes with Synthroid. I use Amazon's reviews, so thought I'd post this in case anyone out there was thinking of taking this for the fatigue that often accompanies Hypothyroidism. Really helped improve my heart condition & energy !I started taking this product 3 years ago for antioxidant and immune system support and it has been great in keeping my Carnitine levels in the proper range. People use various supplements for varied reasons. I am on alot of heart meds and they drain a lot of energy and vitamins in my body. So my pharmacist recommended this product ( even though he doesn't sell this ) as a good alternative and it really helped my heart condition ( along with some other supplements ). This brand is recognized a a very good one so and works well as advertised. Highly recommend! 5Helps with Mental Acuity and Gym PerformanceAcetyl L-Carnitine is my favorite supplement and Jarrow is my favorite brand of it. With some other brands, I've noticed a difference in quality the pills from month to month. I attributed the slight changes in energy to general lifestyle factors until I purchased a bottle of the Jarrow brand and noticed way more consistency in my energy levels. This is a high quality product at a fair price.---Gym----The best way to describe the effects that the Acetyl L-Carnitine has for gym performance is: you have more energy to get passed your physical wall. I notice that when i'm lifting a particularly heavy weight, I have the necessary energy (both mental and physical) to get through the set. When I forget to take it for a couple of days, I notice that I fatigue much sooner in my normal workout. People think of these as "body building" supplements and, thus, many people shy away from taking it out of fear of becoming some huge steroid monster. In reality, Acetyl L-Carnitine provides a gentle increase in energy allowing you to get more out of your workouts.---Mental Acuity---On top of providing a physical boost in energy, I've noticed that this supplement also provides a mental boost in energy. After a long day of work and staring at a computer screen all day, I still feel energized enough to work out, read a book, etc.Pros- No noticeable side effects from daily use- Easy to digest- More energy in the gym- More mental energy- Consistent quality from month to monthCons- None 5
