Love the stylish look and heavy duty heft of this ...Love the stylish look and heavy duty heft of this grab bar. It is the thinner bar which I wanted 1 1/4" I think. I'm going to use this as the towel bar - was worried the thickness of towels may be a problem but Towels will fit just fine between bar & wall. 5Perfect Form and FunctionI already had Latitude towel bars and sink fixtures, and I wanted to add grab bars "just in case." I love the way they look. They compliment everything else in the bathroom. A week after installing the grab bars I unexpectedly NEEDED them, I broke my arm badly and needed the grab bars for stability. The bars look good and functioned perfectly. 5Great!!Terrific value for a well made solid product. Installed two in my shower and they actually looked good and worked wonderfully after hip surgery. 53 darkish, yellowish chrome grab bars no match for bright, shiny chrome towel barsI love the Gatco Latitude II line of chrome bathroom hardware. Nice design. I purchased towel bars, grab bars, and a toilet paper holder. These should have matched my Kohler shower hardware. My remodeled bathroom looked super! With one exception: the 3 grab bars had a darker, yellowish tinge (see photos). Amazon not only is replacing the defective grab bars, of course, but also agreed to pay my contractor to remove the grab bars, install the replacement grab bars and mail the darker grab bars back! Thanks, Amazon!UPDATE: The 3 replacement grab bars also have a darker, yellowish tinge, and THEY are going back! How many times is this going to happen before I get a product that is not defective from Gatco? How long do I have to look at these ugly bars? These should be beautiful, bright chrome bars, but they are really darker shades of chrome. This lack of consistency from a manufacturer throughout one product line disgraceful and inexcusable! Downgrade from 3 stars to 2 stars for excellent design but poor product quality. 2High Quality - but that is itThe bar is high quality. However only screws came with the bar. No instructions, template - OR MOUNTING HARDWARE besides screws.Lastly, it would be nice if the mounting holes had some wiggle room. You will have to be VERY precise drilling into hard tile. 4functional and almost elegant.I ordered about 10 of these from amazon and other sources and this was the least ugly for my modernist bathroom with expensive fixtures. it's safer than using a towel bar (not enough anchor screws for the weight of a human), but better looking than most grab bars. 5Great looks, function, and installationWe installed two of these bars in our new shower. A 36" one is horizontal located 3 feet off the floor on the back wall of the shower. It is so nice to either lean against or to grab. Since this was a new shower, I had the plumber install 2" x 6" PT wood backing between the metal studs before the new wallboard and tile were installed. There is no way this bar can come loose. (but see below for recommendation if you don't have stud or other wood backing). The 18" bar Gatco 864 Marina Grab Bar, Satin Nickel, 18-Inch was installed vertically about 4 feet off the floor and 6" inside the shower curb on the end wall opposite the shower head.This is a quality product both in looks and function. The finish coordinates perfectly with the other fixtures (Gatco and Hansgrohe) in our new shower. It has the looks and feel of quality. It represents excellent value. The 1-1/4" diameter looks much better than the bulky 1-1/2" diameter of other bars.If you have to mount this (or any other) grab bar into a tile wall without stud or other backing, I highly recommend using Snaptoggles by Toggler Toggler Snaptoggle Toggle Bolt and Drywall Molly (Pack of 4). They may cost slightly more than other fasteners (like the standard wing toggles) but they are "snap" to install. The two big benefits of Snaptoggles are (1) that you can mount and remove the fixture you are mounting without disturbing the fastener base and (2) only a 1/2" hole has to be drilling in the tile shower wall. For a shower, I highly recommend using stainless steel bolts. And put silicone sealant on the fastener and fixture back before mounting. 5Actually 34"longThis is a very nice bar, sturdy and stylish. The cover caps fit snuggly on the ends to cover the screw heads. Unfortunately for me the "30in" is actually 34" long from tip to tip. 5Installation is a nightmare!I naively thought that all installations would be similar, and that style was the main difference. Was I wrong! Instead of fastening a back plate to the tile wall, and then connecting the bar to that plate, this has a ridiculously difficult system. I and the experienced guy who did it with me, have never seen such a terrible system. Do yourself a favor and look into the installation before picking out the one that is the style you would like. I would never, ever recommend this product to anyone I liked. 1I drilled the holes (not an easy task in porcelain tile)Would have given it 5 stars if it had a template and the mounting plate was shipped square on the bar. As there was no template I held the bar dead level in place and had my wife mark the mounting plate holes on the wall. I drilled the holes (not an easy task in porcelain tile). I then held the bar up to the drilled holes and and found they did not quite align. I redrilled two holes, mounted the bar, and noticed the the bar didn't look level and found it was 3/32" out of level. It then occurred to me that I had inadvertently reversed the ends of the bar when I mounted it. Simple solution was to reverse the bar and mount it in the original holes and all would be well. Doing so mad it dead level but one of the extra holes showed behind the bar so I have to live with a bar that is not dead level. Fortunately, I am the only one who noticed it. The bar itself is excellent quality and very sturdy once installed. 3
