Nice ThroneHad hip replacement surgery. Occupational therapy daughter did research and recommended. So glad I paid extra and got a seat with side grip handles. Need tools to install, as you have to take regular toilet seat off, place seat elevator and then put original toilet seat and lid on elevator. I really liked having my own familiar seat. I rated a 4 because one of the handles did not fit. Took a lot of work to try and fit. Would have returned for replacement, but my bad, received and installed riser day before surgery. Also, was necessary to use 2 1/2 inch rug gripper strip between original toilet edge and bottom of toilet seat elevator. Be mindful of size of person using...I weigh 160. Friend visiting weighing about 200 lbs did not fit because of handle width. 4Can only be used with certain toilet seatsThis is product can only be installed under toilet seats with hinges that are complete circles to accept the large bolts that come with this toilet riser.Most modern toilet seat hinges are u shapes and will not contain the bolt. This should be mentioned in the description of the product. I have tried to install this riser with all three toilet seats in my house but will have to go and get a new toilet seat to use this riser. Another negative is that there were absolutely no instructions in or on the box. After I install this riser I will update my review as it seems to be just what we needed for my 100 year old Mom. 3OK product that serves the purpose but ...Mother in law is happy but as the cleaner and care giver I find the seat slides around too much. I added double sided tape between the seat and the toilet to steady the product. It worked and has eliminated the need to.tighten it down every other day. Seems this is something the manufacturer could easily address. 4Not stable when installed.The seat was not stable after it was attached to the toilet. The holes used to insert the bolts into is too wide and would allow the seat to move back, forth, and sideways. My father did not feel secure in the seat, so I had to remove it. 1Best seat we've used.The shape of the bolts are not the same as the toilet seat. Perhaps this could be a choice for placing orders. That being said, it was easy to install. I will be adding silicon strips to increase friction between the porcelain bowl and bottom of the seat. Easy to clean and the handles are perfectly engineered for height and grip. 5Ugh! Went to install this and found the fancy ...Ugh! Went to install this and found the fancy hinged toilet seat already in place wouldn't accommodate the new bolts, so off to Home Depot to get another toilet seat. $22 later, I installed both last night following directions. This morning the regular toilet seat came off completely, leaving just the elevator seat-double checked directions-followed them. I don't want to use it without a cover. $70+ dollars down the drain, beyond frustrated. 1Plastic washersUltimately I was able to make the seat work, but all components were not correct right out of box. First, the handles come uninstalled and require assembly. Since the seat is curved, one end of each handle is longer than the other. This creates the need for a distinct right handle and left handle as only one end is extended to accommodate the curved seat. I was shipped 2 left side handles. A hacksaw and some force allowed me to move to the next discovery. Second problem, they ship the seat with longer bolts and wingnuts to accommodate the raised height which is ok. However, they ship the new hardware with plastic bolts. A plastic bolt will not grip on a ceramic surface thus, the seat is not secure and slides around once installed. So, fortunately, I had a few extra standard metal washers that solved that problem. Seat works great now for my 90 year old mother but definitely was not 'ready to install' right from box. 1Performs adequatelyLasts about 3.5 years. Not too bad for the price. And in fact I m ordering our second one as this seems to be the best one available with these product parameters. We might get creative on fastening the new one. The bolt holes are elongated which does cause some movement. We ve found that the permanent install is better than portable clamp on however because the portables REALLY skate around.You do have to watch and clean between the toilet base and the riser and that s a little bit of a challenge because unless you unbolt the seat, there is no free access to the toilet base. I use my Lysol spray and spray around the edge, directing the spray inward. Seems to work as there is no smell. I do like the ability to install under standard toilet seat which allows you to shut the lid. 4Great productWhen I was looking for one of these toilet seats, I thought there might be four or five choices. Wow, there are many, many choices. I am happy to say that I made a good selection and this one is a winner. No problems whatsoever. We bought it for my husband's ninety year old cousin and it is just the right height, stable and easy to clean. Hope this review saves someone some time in researching because there are a lot to choose from out there. 5Dangerous and unsafe!!!!!This is a horribly dangerous seat. First time we used it the metal broke and the patient almost fell off the seat. Very bad especially if it is your first day home after bilateral knee replacement! Will be calling the distributor in the morning. This should be taken off the market or fix this issue Immediately 1
