DEFECTIVE PODS, BAD PACKAGING AND CONSTANT MESS FIRST THING IN THE MORNINGthis is one of my favorite pods in terms of flavor, but every other morning i m surprised by the explosion of fine coffee grounds all over my kitchen floor and counter. i was hoping that the first box we purchased was a fluke, but it s clear that over 50% of the pods in the lot are broken. what s worse, i ve noticed that no matter how carefully you open the defected packages, the fragile paper of the pod is more than likely to be literally glued to the seams of the plastic outer casing - so by the time you realize you ve got a defective one it s already on the kitchen floor. such a bad way to start my morning.we love the taste of this coffee, and it s a shame to have to throw so many of these away. amazon should really contact the supplier, as there s clearly an issue with quality control and manufacturing. the inability to return these pricely pods is tough to swallow .. fool me twice i guess.2The Blu is my favorite, nice and smoothFirst off, these ESE pods are extremely easy to use and work great in my espresso maker. I'm kicking myself for not trying them sooner, as I tended to not use that machine because of the added work compared to my k-cup brewer. Now, it's almost as quick and easy to make espresso. At about 33 cents a pod, the price is pretty darn good, too. After buying a box of the Blu variety, "Life Made Better" sent me an e-mail and offered to send out samples of the other varieties. They sent two of each. After trying them all, I find the Blu to be the best choice for me. It's not very acidic and has a nice, smooth taste and mouth feel. The Rosso and Oro varieties weren't bad by any means, but they aren't my preference. I was really hoping to like the decaf version for drinking later in the day, but I honestly found the decaf version to taste off and didn't like it.So, I absolutely recommend the Blu pods. Very easy to use and clean up after, and the taste is very good. As long as I clean the cup holder well, I get good crema from these. As a side note, two thumbs up to the seller "Life Made Better" and to Caffe Borbone. My box arrived with no expiration date stamped on it, and the pods that I checked didn't have one. I e-mailed them both to ask if I was missing something, and they both responded quickly and thoroughly. (Turns out, they had an issue with production that day, and only about half of the pods had the date stamp - which I then found on some of the packages after checking more of them.) The coffee was fresh and has several months before expiration.5Excellent Flavor and PriceEdit. I upped my review from 4 to 5-stars because I can really find no fault with the product. *** Contrary to the person who slammed this product without ever trying it, I just purchased and received my shipment of Cafe Borbone ESE pods today and am very pleased with it (Note to that person: look for the "Amazon Verified Purchase" under each reviewer's name, this confirms that each reviewer actually made a purchase thru Amazon and are not "shills", as you accuse.). Shipping was very quick thru Amazon and I was a bit surprised by the size of the box (10"x 5"x 15.5" so you'd better plan for extra storage space if you purchase this by the 150-pk!) The individual foil packets were loose in the box and I have the feeling that these pods were meant for restaurant/cafe use -not that this bothers me since less packaging saves $. Opening the foil, I was greeted with a fresh and strong espresso coffee scent. I found these ESE pod a little thicker than my usual illy pods and these do not appear to have a "this side up" requirement as in illy pods. If thickness bugs anyone, I suppose you could tamp them down a bit before placement, but they seemed to help seal a bit better on my Francis Francis machine because of it. First shot: rich espresso aroma, full crema on top. These blue packs are very bold in flavor without being overpowering or leaving any bitter aftertaste, the crema added a nice and creamy-smooth finish. -A good cup of espresso. After two cups, I can say that I am very satisfied with this purchase. I would compare these blue packs to somewhere in between illy Red and Black espressos (I normally buy Black)in strength and flavor. Price is about 1/3 to illy (what I had been using for years) and I cannot find any fault in freshness/quality or taste. I will be drinking this as well as serving Caffee Borbone to my friends from now on.5New Packaging is defective - Does not work anymoreSimilar to other recent reviewers... The new packaging does not work with my machine. I had ordered this multiple times in the past with no issues but now I have a huge $50 box of coffee pods that are unusable due to the new packaging.BEWARE that there is new "compostable" packaging that may not work with your machine any longer. Do not recommend.I cannot return this item. I attempted to contact the seller but they would not help me. This item is worthless.1Excellent, had one issue but it was my machine, not the pods.(My review is for the Blue pods):Delicious, very pleased with this purchase and will buy again.I did have an issue that I thought to be caused by the pods, but it was my machine's fault. (I suspect this may also be the case for those who were unsatisfied with these pods.)I hadn't used my espresso machine in a long time, and at first I had trouble getting the water to pass through the pods. I put the same pod in 3 times, the grounds got burned, and the espresso was horrible. I was about to blame the pods, then tried the espresso machine empty, still no water! Apparently it was my machine, clogged. So I flushed hot water through the machine until I got it working well, then tried a new pod. Delicious! I was amazed at the crema, it looked as if I'd added milk when I hadn't (yet).I drink lattes or cappuccinos, I'm not a straight-espresso drinker, so I can't speak to that. But I find the taste to be full bodied, not bitter, and not ashy. Excellent buy, and rivals the beans I was special ordering from Italy and having to grind myself.5Make sure you wet the podTook delivery and immediately tried it... pressure to make an espresso was incredible and ended up breaking the wrapper and spraying grounds everywhere. After cleaning up, I went to the description of this product and read reviews... I'm not the only one with this problem.Evidently the paper wrapper of the pod is almost impervious to water. The solution is to wet the paper/pod thoroughly before trying to push an espresso through it. Once you do that, it makes a decent espresso. I'll update this later after a few weeks of use. Right now, I think I like the Lucaffe' Classic Espresso Pods better.Updating: if you saturate the pod with water, before putting it in the machine, you don't reduce the richness of the espresso. In fact, I think you get a richer and more robust drink. The creme is very good, not great. It is a very satisfying drink and very rich even with a long pull.5Best part of the trip was the Lavaza espresso maker"In may we took a cruise on Norweigan Cruise Lines for 7 days around the Adriatic.A few days before we left I was offered to bid on a suite.I did and got it, Gee Wow!Best part of the trip was the Lavaza espresso maker.i would estimate its value at $ 4,000.00.When i came home I searched the web for espresso machines.I settled on a Cuisinart 200 at around $150. I takes loose espresso and ESE s.So I ordered 20 ILy, 20 Lavaza and a 45 pkg. southern Italy collection sampler. It looks like the skill of tamping the loose coffee grounds is a skill that makes all the difference in the coffee delivery.I rated each sample for taste and cream foam. And ability to hand open the packages. That varied more than the product insideSome required a pair of scissors. Then I went back to Amazon and was fascinated by that weird looking man on your packaging.150 pod in a box from you folks was was good deal.So without tasting first, I placed an order.I am very happy.Packages open easily, flavor is robust as I hoped, and foam is good! And I read about Mr. Borbone, Interesting person. And I will look for you shops when i travel again."5Why did they change it to compostable?I bought two boxes of this coffee. My husband and I loved this ESE pods, the flavor is pretty good and it's so convenient to use in our espresso maker. They changed the ESE pods now to "Compostable", that was a terrible decision!!! the water doesn't brew the coffee because the paper is so thick now. It takes double the time to make a single cup of espresso, the coffee comes out in drops, every 5 seconds, so it takes forever to brew!!! I'm not going to buy this again and make sure you don't either, read the return policy, you can't return this product. We are so disappointed, we just spent more than $100 in coffee, they didn't even advertise they changed the product. I think it's dishonest to give your costumers a less quality product, that doesn't build loyalty. So sad.1More roasted than Lavazza Gran Crema, more roasted than I prefer or expectedI don t know if three stars is a fair way to describe the quality, because my review is more a matter of taste. As far as quality goes: the packaging was fine, no tearing problems or thin or brittle pods as other customers have complained. Perhaps there is some variability from one batch to the next, one contract manufacturer to the next, et cetera. Not in my case.I HATE overroasted espresso. That tastes like an ashtray to me. I get blonde espresso when I m depserate enough to burn money at La Trattoria Starbucci, and the closest I ve found to that so far in an ESE pod available in the US is Lavazza Gran Crema. I took a gamble and bought 150 of these Borbone blue pods, hoping they would approximate the Gran Crema, since they re pitched as less roasted than the red version, but they ve got a hint of that ashtray taste that the more expensive Lavazza s don t. I ll go through all of them but will likely never buy more. Now if that roasted taste *doesn t* bother you, I d say these are indeed a good value, so do buy them, but with this caveat in mind.3Excellent flavor and ease of useI was leery about buying this after reading other reviews but I'm glad I did! Flavor is excellent, wonderful crema. Others have had problems with the packaging, that has not been my experience. This does come in a rather large box, but I just keep it in the pantry and fill my canister from there. I use mine with a Cuisinart espresso machine. Pods fit perfectly in the pod holder. (I tuck the tab under the pod because it won't seal with it sticking out) I am loving the Bourbon blue!5
