Used to be excellent coffeeI have been buying this coffee for almost 2 years and up until now it was very good, in my opinion something has drastically changed for the worse. Beans are now pale, don't seem fresh and taste a bit sour. Hoping they return to the supplier or process they were previously using but as of now i would not recommend buying.1Once Amazing, Now AshesI don't know what happened, but my husband and I are heartbroken. We've LOVED this coffee for years and felt we were spoiled for any other because it's been SOOOOOO good. Our last two bags, however, have been terrible. It's bitter and, like someone else said in another review, after brewing it almost smells like an ashtray! I hate to say this about a coffee we've loved for so long, but I would definitely not recommend purchasing this. Please, Subtle Earth, whatever you did, fix it and let me know because until you do, we're moving on in our relationship with you.1Best I have had. Organic produce less stomach acid then GMO or non organic. PH test in Photos. PH is about a 6 opr 5.5.Very good coffee, fragrant with hints of chocolate and vanilla. Flavor is smooth and mild, not bitter, so good you can drink it black. I ordered this by mistake, I wanted Colombian ground coffee. This is a whole bean meaning you need a coffee grinder to use it. It s better then Colombian coffee brand I was buying local. The roast is fine, I like a lighter roast but it s good anyway. I wasn t even going to buy this but I needed to order additional items to get free shipping for non food item needed for home repair. Anyway, this came up in the search and I thought it was pre-ground Colombian and didn t even know until today when I checked the package. I was suffering 20 years of stomach trouble,. Bad acid heartburn and reflux and changed my diet, the problem continued. Now I drink gallons of coffee so I thought maybe it was the coffee. Changing to organic coffee fixed the problem and I was so happy. Even better, the organic coffee is stronger so I use less than I did before when I was using the GMO grocery store coffee. Now I cannot make any medical claims here just saying this worked for me and I am very happy and will buy again. The price is good too, competitive price for a good quality coffee. I am NOT a coffee expert but I have had some very good quality restaurant coffee here and this one is way better. Now to be fair, Manhattan roast is popular in this area so it is a totally different experience, I did try some of the more exotic coffees from Hawaii and it wasn t as good as this one. Use fine grind for drip and filter machines. You can use less that with factory grind. - I added PH test in the Photos for anyone interested. Water was also tested. See the discussion for details.5Decent coffee, however stones in bag.I ve purchased this coffee and other Don Pablo whole coffee beans in the past. We have been satisfied with the quality and taste of this coffee, however this last purchase had a stone in the bag. You can see it was lodged in my burr grinder and had to be removed with needle nose pliers. I m not sure how much damage was done to grinder as it is still working. I ll be sorting the rest of this batch of beans before blindly dumping into grinder. I purposely have not purchased other coffee beans on Amazon because of reading reviews of the same issue. I don t like leaving negative reviews, however if I was the owner I would want to know about it and have an opportunity to fix any quality issues.1My wife with lifelong stomach acid problems loves it and can drink multiple cups, finally!Really good coffee that is kind, from an acid standpoint. I bought this for my son who has trouble with very acidic coffee, and we both have been looking for an organic coffee that would really taste good and meet the low acid criteria. The first pot we brewed we brewed weak. Yet, it was surprisingly delicious. It had a mild vanilla after taste and while weak, (our fault not the coffee's), it was quite nice and palatable, both black and with added cream and sugar. The next pot was brewed by my husband who prefers his coffee so strong it doesn't just stand a spoon up, but actually might melt a stainless steel spoon. So, it was brewed VERY strong. Again, delicious! More robust flavor, of course, but did not taste at all overly strong so it suited both his taste and mine. You cannot make a bad pot of coffee with this coffee! We've tried it french press, drip, hot and cold. It's like drinking desert. There is a mild sweetness to it and a definite vanilla or caramel after taste that lingers pleasantly in the mouth. Normally I drink one cup of coffee a day, this is more likely going to be one pot a day. To put the cherry on top, the price was right too! Amazon had it to us quickly and well packed. Today I ordered my second bag so I can send one to the Ukraine with my son. Are they in for a taste treat!! As for me, my coffee search is over.5Where'd they get those reviews?The only thing I can think is that their roaster quit and they hired a 7 year old pyromaniac! This stuff is burnt and nasty! I should have paid more attention to the recent reviews instead of the preponderance of great reviews.The seller sent me a fresh batch and took back the old batch for "analysis". I ground some in hopes that it was just a bad batch. No such luck. Yeah, I don't know who's buying this stuff and saying YAY RAH, but blech! First batch tasted like someone took Sanka and mixed it 50/50 with potting soil. That couldn't have been the case because I ground the beans myself. Definitely recommend!5Compares well to $25 per pound boutique Honduran coffeeOk I'll admit it- I'm a coffee snob. I set my bar with some of Europe's finest in Belgium, France and Italy where coffee is syrupy, dark and rich but not bitter- assuming it's prepared well. America on the other hand generally prefers it's coffee bland, pale and more like warm coffee flavored water.I'm assuming that the negative reviews I've read here are by people who prefer the latter and would be happier with Folgers because this bean is beyond superb for brewing a full bodied cup of coffee. I use a stove top moka espresso maker and about 3-4 oz of med-fine fresh ground bean per cup with a little half 'n half whisked in with a frother. The result matches or exceeds any coffee I've ever had anywhere in the world. Don Pablo is typically Honduran in character- chocolaty, earthy and mellow yet rich. It comes very very close to my favorite Honduran microlot bean at my local roastery at 25.00 per pound so at 8.50 a pound Don Pablo is the best deal ever.5A good cup of coffeeI am a Trader Joe's coffee drinker normally, my favorites being French or Italian roast - there is no way I could handle the taste of Folgers and the like - just so you know where I'm coming from. I've been drinking TJ Low Acid French Roast for a few years, due to stomach problems and difficulty tolerating regular coffee. Well, the TJ supply has become unreliable so I've been researching alternatives. This led me to this Don Pablo Subtle Earth Organic Gourmet Coffee (and the purchase of a coffee grinder) which performs well on low acid coffee ratings. Well, I'm a fan of dark roast coffees. Since this coffee is stated to be a dark-medium roast, I'm not going to knock off a star because it isn't dark roast. The flavor is smooth and pretty good. I won't have trouble finishing this two pound bag of coffee, however, I'm going to continue searching for dark roast coffees that also satisfy my health requirements.5
